Simply download an entry form and design your own step-by-step Lab experiment with the theme Christmas. It’s entirely up to you what experiment you choose. How to enter

Fill out all the details on the entry form and send the whole thing to us at Lab Genius, Science+Nature magazine, 31–32 Alfred Place, London, WC1E 7DP. Alternatively you can scan your entry form and email it to scienceandnature@dennis.co.uk using the subject header LAB GENIUS. Your entry must reach us no later than 11.59pm, 8 November 2019.

The judges

The entries will be judged by a panel that includes Magali Clouzet, Brand Manager at Bandai, Anna Bassi, editor-in-chief of The Week Junior, Dan Green, editor of The Week Junior Science+Nature, and Stevie Derrick, assistant editor of The Week Junior Science+Nature. Winners will be announced in The Week Junior Science+Nature issue 17. Terms and conditions apply*

Top tips

  • Think about an experiment that you have done in the classroom or seen someone else do. Would this make a good Lab activity?
  • Decide how many steps you need to explain your Lab activity in.
  • Use The Lab section in Science+Nature to help you figure out how to write and draw your experiment.
  • There’s not much space, so try to describe a step in one or two short sentences.
  • Before you write your experiment on paper, try explaining it simply to another person. Do they understand what the experiment is? Can you make it clearer?
  • Take pictures to help you write the steps later on.
  • Shoot a simple video of your experiment.
